AC/DC: How we accidentally became Music Tourists

When AC/DC skipped our hometown shows, we turned it into a win-win — combining a European vacation with a bucket-list concert. Music tourism lets you explore new destinations and see your favorite bands abroad, often for less than you’d spend seeing them at home if you were planning to travel anyway.

Our family are huge AC/DC fans, but we’d never been to a concert. When rumors started circulating in 2024 that the band would mount a 2025 tour, we signed up for the newsletter and all the social media feeds. AC/DC announced their North American dates on December 2, 2024. Notice anything missing?

That’s right, they were skipping the New Jersey/New York (yeah, it’s Jersey first because that’s where the stadium is 😤) market! Not even Philadelphia got a show. We kept checking, surely they’d add a show for one of the biggest markets on Earth!

On February 25, 2025 hope for a MetLife Stadium show was dashed when the band announced their European Dates. However, we were already thinking about a European trip exactly when the band would be in Berlin, Germany. Maybe we make the whole trip around this show? Soon a plan formed and we unwittingly became Music Tourists!

What’s Music Tourism?

Also known as Concert Tourism, Music Tourism is a new approach to travel. Instead of Set Jetting, you’re jet setting for setlists! Missed your favorite band near home, but they have a show in a place you’ve always wanted to visit? Book that trip! Tickets are often cheaper or the same price, but even if not, you’re discovering a new or infrequently visited place which enhances the excitement. Some things you just can’t predict though, like when you get paper tickets! No digital substitutes! You can’t imagine how many times we checked to make sure we had these tickets in our bag. Also, understanding where your seat is could be a challenge. Take extra time, get that merch & food, then see a great show!

That’s $204.38 USD (exchange rate at the time of writing) was for this view (default 1.5x Zoom on iPhone 16 Pro Max):

Can’t complain about that!
