Scotland – 5 Days, 4 Nights

Short fall getaway, no crowds, lower cost

Scotland is a gorgeous, friendly, and compact destination. This makes it a great option for a shorter vacation if you’re limited on time. Also it pairs very well with a visit to England. If you can spare a day to visit the Highlands, even if only the southern portion, I highly recommend it. The amazing landscapes and quiet beauty of the Highlands was the highlight of our trip. We often felt like we were the only people in the world.

What does a trip like this cost?

Combing through my email one night I came across a sale alert from Norwegian Air. The alert advertised flights from Stewart airport to Edinburgh Scotland for $349 dollars. I immediately grabbed them, without even checking for hotel options. I was able to get a direct flight including seat reservations. Since we would only be away for 5 days, I opted to pay for only one checked bag.

Stewart International Airport is located about 90 minutes from New York in Newburgh. Norwegian Air used to offer direct flights to Edinburgh, Dublin, Shannon, and Cork. Unfortunately due to costs and the grounding of the 737 Max, they have ceased operations as of August 2019. Our flight used the 737 Max, we luckily had a safe comfortable flight.

Often when I’m asked how much one of my trips costs, people are  surprised by the affordability of some of our trips. Reading through the individual days, it will give you a glimpse of the work and choices I put into an itinerary.  For us we usually strive for a plan that hits the sweet spot between the affordable, deluxe, and luxury.
